(Bruised troubadour makes late-night gem)
"The
first thing you notice when you listen to Looking For Murphy is Kevin Barry's
voice. Bruised,battered but utterly brilliant, his vocals are drenched in emotion
and raw as an opened wound. It takes quite a bit of balls for an artist to musically
lay everything on the line, but it's a gamble that has paid off as each listen
to the record reaps new rewards. Looking for Murphy is a pretty dark listen and
tailer-made for late nights alone, but sometimes you have to appreciate the darkness
before you can love the light."

"Looking for Murphy" what's it like? Well it's
an excellently recorded, hand carved body of work that Kevin has clearly painstakingly
nurtured, polished and tweaked throughout the whole process. What you get is an
eclectic collection of very personal and personable songs in the same ballpark
as Peter Gabriel or if Thom Yorke of Radiohead had been locked in a studio for
a couple of months his own. There's no genre chasing or faddy fashionista posturing
here, it's just very compelling. There are some seriously grown up emotions peppered
throughout the songs such as the heart-wrenching dark balladry (and stand out
track) "Under your spell" that is nudged slowly along by the clever
use of some ethereal strings and piano which could easily be used as a Tim Burton
film track. This an album of the highest quality forged in the fire found only
in the belly of someone who really believes in what they do. Buy it..."
Biography
Kevin
Barry was originally born in London but he subsequently moved to Co. Kerry, in
the South West of Ireland before moving to Dublin where he currently resides.
Kevin has been gigging for sometime in Ireland and he has played in such venues
as "Whelans", "The Sugar Club" and "Crawdaddy",
to name but a few in headline & support slots In addition to this he was also
the lead singer and guitarist with the band Matinee Idylls. While Kevin was in
Australia and New Zealand he gigged with a Sydney based band called "Be"
& recorded their third album & toured Australasia.
All instruments with the exception of Drums, Strings & Brass were played & co-produced by Kevin Barry on the album.
