SUPER HEAVY FUNK
Cantaloop's mission is to provide "iFunk + indie Hip Hop" to the masses and is fronted by the hip-hop/funk attack of Dannie Dee with the pioneers of "ifunk" 100C on guitar, De'wooton on bass, and Beef on drums, with additional players either (sax or trumpet) or both The Horns of Plenty and special guests.
In 2007, the band completed a tour of 10 dates in Ireland with The Fun Lovin' Criminals. The band also performed an unstoppable amount of shows in the UK (their home territory). Cantaloop have supported several reputable, established acts including:
"
The Fun Lovin' Criminals (UK and Europe "Irish 07", "Livin' In
The City Tour 05", "Bag Of Hits Tour", "Loco Tour")
"
De La Soul
" Trevor Nelson
" Roy Ayers
" Dewele

"Hits
you with immediate effect. The optimistic atmosphere of this album will make you
feel good for no particular reason!" - Blues & Soul
In the Frame
marks the 2nd single from the killer forthcoming album I.C.H.I.L.E. and is a pure,
vibrant funk/ pop/ and 'bling-free' hip-hop track tinged with soul. This is hip-hop
without gimmicks and without pretension. Cantaloop pedal music to the grown up
hip hop contingent and this single also features a murderously cool mix from the
Fun Lovin Criminals.
However, it is not only the instrumentation that is ear
catching, vocalist Dannie Dee's biting social commentary and fluent lyricism is
guaranteed to turn heads. Dee uses the forthcoming album as a platform to air
his views on everything from personal friendships to the state of modern society
with the sort of insight that marks him out as a truly original lyricist.
Cantaloop
also excel as a live band, each member being accomplished instrumentalists. Unsurprisingly
their show stopping live performances have won them prestigious support slots
for the likes of De la Soul and Fun Lovin' Criminals. The latter have been so
impressed by the band that they have joined them live on stage on many occasions
and now provide them with exclusive remixes.
I.C.H.I.L.E release date
20-4-08
Cantaloop release their latest studio album I.C.H.I.L.E in 08; The
band has just finished the album with Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Twang, and
Scott Matthews). Its be a long time coming but when you hear tracks like "Brotherhood"
with its blend of acoustic-funk, old skool deck-wreckin its back to future horns
(The Horns of Plenty also smash the joint "Peace the Theme to Cantaloop")
You know these guy's might just be able to make funk/Hip Hop credible once more!
.
But don't get to comfortable cos just when you think you got it, they can 'flip
the script', chillax (chill and relax) and drop some bittersweet vocal lines and
earth moving Bass I.C.H.I.L.E is just that with its under line edge and social
comment.
When Dannie Dee tells you in "Propa" that they are not
your regular hip hoppers'. He's not lying, there mix of hip-hop soul and funk
on songs from the out and out funk of Psycho Stalker to the sucker punch that
is Friendly Fire, this song is a band with its back up against the wall and they're
still flashing the vee's and come out rockin. In the Frame will give you that
warm sun touched Feeling.
And look out for the sneaky Fun Lovin Criminals
remix of "Brotherhood". The family DiFontaine have cooked up a sure-fire
club hot-footer! ".
Cantaloop have played at various festivals
and legendary venues including:
" Glastonbury Festival on The Jazz World,
Avalon stages and Bandstand (UK)
" Montreux Jazz Festival (Montreux)
"
Blue Balls Festival (Luzern)
" Moods (Zurich)

Cantaloop - Brotherhood
http://themusicmagazine.co.uk/
As the
first single from Cantaloop's eagerly awaited third album, 'I.C.H.I.L.E' (due
to be released in early '08), 'Brotherhood' is under pressure to impress. The
band's back catalogue is a lot to live up to and, thankfully, this new single
doesn't disappoint. Full of funk and hints of the great early days of hip-hop,
Cantaloop provide the listener with a highly developed sound that is fun, clever
and catchy.
'Brotherhood' is a bare-bones song that has the ability to transform
even the darkest of winters in to summer. It's simplicity is it's genius, it makes
it approachable to all. The lyrics compliment the tune as they are real and hopeful,
sending out a message without barraging you with political propaganda, a mistake
many bands have fallen victim to of late.
Cantaloop, as vocalist Dannie Dee
informs us in the single's intro, will last forever. They are one of a few present
bands that stand out from the crowd and, if they continue on the track they're
currently on, they will only develop and improve further to become the forerunner
of British music.

Cantaloop - Brotherhood
Cantaloop
take hip hop to another level and widen their potential market base by allowing
their street groove to romp playfully and, I have to say, majestically with funked-up
jazzy vibes. Hey, it works wonderfully well and pretty much turns the genre on
its head!
'Brotherhood' by Cantaloop is given here as three mixes; radio edit,
album version and deester remix. They all work, they're all tastily handled and
beautifully formed. The Cantaloop boys deliver their voices crisply and with a
clarity far superior to the hip hop norm. The great jazz vibe is addictive and
juicy and adds new depth and honesty to what is already a damn funky song. There's
some stunning 'horns' dotted thoughtfully through the song which lift and brighten
the whole feel of the song. The rich jazz undertones are further enhanced by some
excellent vocal work which at times borders on scat - really nicely done, it works
- it really works!!
Hip hop has its niche takers and with 'Brotherhood', Cantaloop
should open the genre up to a wider audience and win many friends along the way.
'Brotherhood' is cool and mature and should become a favourite with DJ's, party
freaks and club goers. Superb production allows the listener full access to every
aspect of the song and I'm sure the radio stations will take this on-board with
relish and help 'Brotherhood' get into houses that probably wouldn't normally
recognise hip hop as an acceptable musical art-form.
'Brotherhood' by Cantaloop
is 'on the money! Cantaloop absolutely nail the piece and 'Brotherhood' should
prove to be a big winner for Cantaloop.

Our Rating:********
This
is truly a great hip-hop track with all the ingredients to garner much attention.
It would be too easy to liken them to Jurassic 5 - but they do take on certain
elements of them.
The thing with Cantaloop though is one minute you're deep
in the middle of some funky knees up of a tune and the next you're in the throws
of a social rant. But it's all good. Cantaloop are great fun with some awesome
songs, so why not check out more at their myspace (www.myspace.com/cantaloopnufunk)
and see why they've been supporting the likes of De La Soul. - lizharvs

Acclaim:
Sarina Q of Spill: "A funk locomotive from Worcestershire self
proclaimed pioneers of Nufunk, having witnessed this band on countless occasions.
They leave you breathless from bopping your head and twisting your feet in harmony.
Theirs only one recommendation here, catch this band live!"
Fela Lewis of Logo: " Cantaloop's fusion of funk and hip-hop pitches itself in a territory bounded by the free form jams of Phish and the social awareness of The Specials, tinged with the spacious blues of Eric Bibb and the dive bombing rap 'n' scratch of Senser. Live, recorded live (obviously), shows that their hearts are closer to funk than either jazz or straightforward rock, though they manage to combine all three with aplomb "
Colm Farry of MMII Observer UCD: "Cantaloop's Resensitize takes hip-hop to fresh modern extremes, distinguishing itself from the stale and altogether mundane music we have come to expect in the wake of Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Doggy Dog.
Best of British from the British Phonographic Industry/Virgin Mega stores USA: "A storming soundtrack to sweaty dance floor action or a pass the rizla chillout session, this is the perfect solution to super club overkill."
